Alberta Speed School
My daughter had one goal and it was to “be faster at running!”
My goal as her mom was to find a club that boosted confidence, created dependence, held accountability and supported her dreams.
I then found coach Ron with Alberta Speed School. After watching him work with the kids week after week it became very clear that his passion, dedication and love that he pours into his athletes is a true gift. His knowledge, experience and enthusiasm has my daughter “running faster” but also growing in so many more ways.
With Alberta Speed School she is learning life lessons, creating bigger dreams and finding her confidence all while working hard and having fun. Both of our goals have been exceeded.
Thank you Ron for all that you do for your team! The impact you have left on my daughter is unmeasurable. You really truly are a gift! 🎁

Testimonial for Coach Ron Hewer – Alberta Speed School
Our son, Kayden Fredeen, has been part of Alberta Speed School for the past two years and has been fortunate to have Ron Hewer as his running coach and mentor. Kayden began track and field in Grade 10 with a strong interest in the sport and some natural talent, but with limited experience and coaching. That changed when Ron approached Kayden at a track meet and invited him to join Alberta Speed School. Kayden was honoured and excited to have the opportunity to train under Ron’s guidance.
Joining the Speed School was one of the best decisions Kayden made. He loved having a structured training schedule, weekly workouts, the chance to train alongside other dedicated athletes, and the invaluable one-on-one coaching with Ron. Over the past two years, Kayden’s running times improved significantly, but equally important, so did his confidence and technical skill. Along the way, he made lasting friendships and truly enjoyed being part of the Alberta Speed School community.
Ron is an exceptional coach who not only develops athletic performance in his athletes but also instills life skills. He teaches his athletes about proper nutrition, managing training schedules, and preparing for competitions. He is there at every track meet—guiding, supporting, and cheering on all of the athletes. One of Ron’s greatest strengths is his focus on the athletes personal bests rather than just winning the race. Many of the speed school athletes did win their races, but this approach helps them see success as their own improvement and not just a spot on the podium, which keeps them motivated and positive.
Ron is a true builder of young athletes—helping them grow in skill, confidence, and resilience. His dedication, expertise, and mentorship have had a lasting impact on Kayden and so many others. It was inspiring to watch all of the Alberta Speed School athletes improve this year and excel at Provincials. We are incredibly grateful for the role Ron has played in Kayden’s athletic and personal growth.
Thank you Ron for investing your time in our son.

In 2017, my son Jeremiah was 16 and in his first year of club racing. He placed 4th and 6th in high school provincials, but with little coaching, experience, technique, or confidence. That is when Coach Ron showed up in Red Deer. Within a month under Ron’s coaching, Jeremiah took his first medal in club racing, a silver at Caltaf. He was then chosen for Team Alberta and a month later came home with a gold, silver and bronze from Tri-Provincials in Winnipeg. The following year it was Canadian Nationals. In 2019, he took gold in the U20 200m, at Canadian Nationals.
Ron loves track, cares about youth, and has a lot of coaching experience. He also cares about youth education. He helped Jeremiah get athletic scholarships at 3 different NCAA universities. Six years of racing NCAA, a bachelor’s degree, and a master’s degree from Duke University, all fully paid.
Ron also likes to help youth get life experiences and sets up training camps in Mexico. Jeremiah has been numerous times. Also to Pan Am games in Costa Rica and Chile.
Difficult to sum up the 8+ years, but absolutely none of these experiences would have been possible without Ron’s coaching and genuine care for youth. This whole track experience has been key to my son’s youth years and beyond.

Ronald Hewer has given his athletes opportunities that many can only dream about, these opportunities include the incredible chance to train and compete in Mexico. Experiences like these not only help his athletes grow in sport but also as individuals, teaching his athletes the value of hard work, dedication, and the memories that come from being part of something bigger than themselves.
Ron’s commitment to his athletes goes far beyond the track. He pushes them to become the best athletes they can possibly be, never settling for less than their full potential. His strong passion is shown in the countless hours he dedicated to training, planning, and guidance through mental blocks, or challenges- always with the goal of helping them succeed. He leads by example, showing that greatness doesn’t just come from talent, but from the discipline and effort his athletes put in every single practice or race.
But what makes Ron stand out even more is his understanding that being an athlete is only one part of who they are. He reminds the athletes that their schooling, families, and responsibilities outside of track are just as important as what they do in competition. He works hard to instill them the values of balance and dedication in all aspects of life, teaching them lessons far beyond track and field.
Ron is not only a dedicated coach but also a kind and supportive mentor. His athletes know they can rely on him, not just for guidance in the sport, but also for encouragement, perspective, and understanding. The respect and care that he shows for his runners is unmatched, and it creates an environment where they feel supported, challenged, and motivated to keep striving for more.
We as parents, and athletes are grateful every day for the hard work, kindness, and dedication Ron pours into his athletes. He has given them opportunities, lessons and many many memories that will last a lifetime, and for that we couldn’t thank him more.

Our Experience with Alberta Speed School and Coach Ron
Before we even knew about Alberta Speed School, Coach Ron saw something in our daughter. He invited her to join practices and get a feel for the environment—no pressure, just an opportunity to see if she liked it. What we didn’t realize then was how life-changing that decision would be.
Coach Ron recognized her potential before she even saw it in herself. Through his coaching style and genuine mentorship, he helped her develop not just as an athlete, but as a person. In a remarkably short time, she was competing at a national level, winning countless medals, and, more importantly, gaining the confidence to believe in herself. She now understands that hard work truly pays off.
Ron has gone above and beyond for our daughter—and for every athlete in the program. He’s present at every competition, pushing his athletes to be their very best. He spends countless hours analyzing video footage to help them fine-tune their performance and reach their goals. What stands out most is his unwavering commitment: he ensures each athlete feels heard, supported, and respected. He also takes the time to keep parents informed and involved, making sure we understand and appreciate the incredible efforts our kids are putting in.
Thanks to Alberta Speed School and Ron’s support, our daughter received numerous athletic scholarship offers from across North America. The transformation we’ve seen in her—both on and off the track—is something we’ll always be grateful for.
We are so thankful that Ron reached out to her at the very beginning. Alberta Speed School has not only helped our daughter achieve her athletic potential, but has also given her lifelong tools of discipline, confidence, and resilience. We are incredibly proud to be part of this club.
