Alberta Speed School Program Information

Alberta Speed School is a Red Deer based seasonal summer track club. Winters are spent resting the body and working on strength and conditioning in preparation for the summer season. During the winter months we may participate in a few indoor meets.

Coach Ron travels to Mexico for the winter months to coach high-performance athletes from the Puerto Vallarta Halcones Track Club. He uses his knowledge and expertise in both countries to further develop and enhance high-performance track athletes.

Alberta Speed School is the only Central Alberta track club with high performance sprint and hurdle coaching and is conveniently located in Red Deer.

As a speed and biomechanical specialist Coach Ron has coached athletes from other sports. He has worked with WHL athletes, OUA football athletes and volleyball and lacrosse athletes.

2024-2025 was a busy time for Coach Ron as he pursued greater knowledge and professional development. In the fall of 2025 Coach Ron completed the NCCP Advanced Coaching Diploma course and as well completed the USA T&F Level 3 course. The knowledge gained from these courses will be a valuable addition to his education and knowledge of the sport of track and field.

Membership with Alberta Speed School includes individual specialized programs so that athletes can reach their track potential and goals. Program design and the mechanics of running are Coach Ron’s areas of specialty.

U14 & U16

Our U14 & U16 program works to develop athletes to excel and experience the learn-to-train and train-to-train phase of the Long Term Athlete Development Plan.

For U16 athletes, this program is geared towards athletes with an interest in sprints, hurdles. Our efforts will be focused on continuing to develop athletes in the power/speed realm to achieve individual goals, and the opportunity to specialize.

This program will support all U14 & U16 athletes who are working towards setting personal bests, competing at the provincial and national level in addition to trying to make Team Alberta (U16 and up only)

U18/U20

U18 & U20 program is designed to take the training to the next level. Athletes in this group can expect training that focuses on events in the power/speed realm. Whether you are new to track or a long time athlete looking to make nationals, this program will help steer you towards your goals.

Is medaling at nationals and making Team Canada on your list of goals? The high-performance program is designed specifically to achieve these goals.

Athletes in this program are considered high performing athletes in their respective events and programs are individualized for each athlete based on their needs. High performance athletes can expect to travel across Canada, North America and internationally to meets that will help elevate them to the next level.
